Media & Communications

Whether it’s traveling away with an Australian National Football Team or delivering a project with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, there’s frequently opportunities or requirements to engage with media, or produce content that engages a variety of audiences.

I’ve contributed to this work for Football Australia in several different ways, with a particular focus on communications in international and/or cross-cultural contexts.

Media Engagement

I’ve fulfilled spokesperson duties for various projects I’ve managed for Football Australia, across Asia, the Pacific and Australia.

In doing so, I’ve been interviewed on live and recorded television, radio and print, as well as fronting press conferences with up to 30 journalists.

I’ve also taken roles managing content distributions to journalists and stakeholders, as well as copywriting for media releases and website articles.

Content Strategy & Localisation

I’ve led or contributed to the design and delivery of media and content strategies for various projects, particularly in international and cross-cultural contexts. I’ve also worked end-to-end on individual pieces of content, like the one featured here.

This work has also involved briefing in and directing creatives, such as photographers and videographers, as well as backgrounding journalists.

Advisory

I’ve supported Football Australia executives, Australian National Football Team coaches and players with advice on engaging with the media, and also served as the Media Officer for the Young Matildas when they were participating at the 2019 AFC U-19 Women’s Championship in Thailand.

Conferences & Presentations

I’ve spoken on a range of different topics, including Football Australia’s international activity, Australian Sports Diplomacy and working in cross-cultural contexts.

Several institutions or initiatives worked with in the past include New York University’s Tisch Institute for Global Sport, University of Technology Sydney, University of Sydney Business School, Western Sydney University, Asialink and the Australia - China Youth Dialogue.

Production

Working on the road for projects, there’s sometimes no photographer or videographer, or they’re required to be in two places at once!

To support, I’ve developed some photography and videography skills, and have shot in a variety of different contexts - from corporate events at Australian Parliament House and Australian Embassies overseas, through to training sessions and matches involving Australian National Football Teams.
